Exclusive Interview with Alexander Steen Olsen: "THAT'S WHAT I LIVE FOR"

REUSCH MET SÖLDEN WINNER ALEXANDER STEEN OLSEN FOR AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW IN THE BRAND’S HEADQUARTERS.

Alexander Steen Olsen, the winner at the Ski Alpine Worldcup season opener in Sölden, shares his memories, challenges and joys as a professional ski racer. Reusch, leading brand for sport gloves, met with the talented Norwegian to talk with him about his career and the importance of top-tier equipment in sports.

Interviewer: Alexander, what is your first memory of skiing?

Alexander Steen Olsen: “My father took me along to training after school when I was a little kid. I was about three years old when I started skiing, but my first clear memories are probably from when I was five.”

Did you have an idol when you were growing up?

“Of course, Marcel Hirscher was a big role model for me, as well as Ted Ligety and Alexis Pinturault. The guys skiing fast were the ones I was really looking up to.”

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

“My first World Cup win in the US in 2023. It was an unbelievable experience and a dream come true.”

This win was a particular situation. Your victory was announced after AJ Ginnis was disqualified after the completion of the race following a review that determined the Greek ski racer had straddled a gate. How did that feel?

“It was in the finish line where I received the news. I already knew that I was at least going to be second, and my teammate Timon Haugan was going to be third. That would have anyways been my first podium so right in that moment it didn’t matter if it was going to be a victory or a second place. It was still my first podium—and a moment I’ll never forget!”

What was the most difficult moment of your career until now?

“That moment came after the second run of the final giant slalom race of last season in Saalbach. I had a series of races where I performed well in the first run but wasn’t as fast in the second. Then, in Saalbach, it happened again, and it was frustrating. But I’m the type of person who processes those things quickly.”

When do you have the most fun during the winter season?

“When I’m out training with my teammates. Those are best days—that’s what I live for.”

Is there something you are especially grateful for?

“Yes, I am very grateful that I get to live off something that to me is so fun! I tried to picture myself in some kind of another job but I can’t really imagine that. I am really happy that I can call ski racing my job.”

What do you appreciate about Reusch gloves?

“I love the quality and how well it works, how well the glove fits and also how durable it is. We are skiing so much, dragging the hand in the snow a lot. Reusch gloves really can take a beating! And they also protect my hand. So what more can you ask for in gloves?! My favorite is the World Cup Warrior GS racing glove—I usually use the finger version.”

Reusch thanks Alexander Steen Olsen for this inspiring conversation and is proud to have him as a Reusch brand ambassador. With the support of Reusch gloves, Alexander will continue to shine on the slopes.
